In June and July of 2018 the University of Maryland University College’s Environmental Management Capstone Group partnered with MEE and the Center for Watershed Protection to develop a Benthic Macroinvertibrate Monitoring Plan for the North Branch Bennett Creek Stream Restoration.

The goal of this monitoring effort is to assess the impact of restoration on long-term stream health while also providing the students of MEE’s programs with practical sampling experiences and a deeper understanding of watershed ecology. Ultimately, data collected during this monitoring effort will be compared to data collected by certified samplers with the Maryland Biological Stream Survey to help determine the accuracy and validity of data collected by students and citizens.
